Top o' the Season!

Top o' the Season!

Hello, all, and Merry Christmas!

Well, we are a few days into our holidays and man, I have to tell you how great it is not to be working for a little while--you don't realize how busy you've been until you pause. We've been doing a lot of relaxing, walking, and such, and are looking forward to our trip to Egypt. We leave at 11:55pm tonight for an 8-day whirlwind tour, starting in Luxor and ending in Alexandria. We've decided to limit our time in Cairo to two days and focus instead on other areas. We'll return home to Kuwait on Jan. 2 and will head back to work on the 6th.

So, we would like to extend our wishes for a very happy and blessed holiday season--have a great Christmas and a wonderful New Year!

P.S.: If you're looking for competitive turkey-pricing, it looks as though Sobey's and Loblaw's/Fortinos will be doing price-matching. (www.thestar.com/Business/article/164650)

P.P.S.: Brent's other big news is that his cast is now a very Yule-friendly green.

Speedy Rosa...

So Rosalee ran her first 5K race the other day, the "5th Annual Turkey Trot" put on by the American School of Kuwait and the American Embassy. That's her on the left, post-run, looking fabulous and not even a little sweaty.

We ran it together and came in with a time of 25:02. For her efforts, Rosalee came in 2nd place out of 17 other women. Not bad for her first time out, eh?

Castin'...

Last year I hurt my wrist in soccer; despite having x-rays and such, it turns out that my little scaphoid bone was fractured after all.

Apart from some stiffness. it hadn't really bothered me until I coached volleyball this year. So back for more x-rays and the orthopod cringes and says "why did you wait this long?"

Anyhow, long story short: the cast is a long-shot attempt at allowing the bones to re-fuse themselves. The alternative is a bone graft from my hip sandwiched and steel-pinned into my scaphoid bone, an invasive surgery I'd rather avoid.

Feel free to send a few requests up to the Big Man Upstairs for me, ok? Posted by Picasa

Christmas preparation...

A candid shot of my Rosalee as she straightens out the "branches" of our travel-friendly Christmas tree (thenks again, Blaines!) prior to the all-important next step of decoration.

It truly feels like winter here, as the nighttime temperatures have dropped to 3 degrees and we've had some rain and grey, grey skies.

As for Christmas plans, we hope (DV) to fly to Egypt for a week over Christmas/New Year, another stage in our explore-the-surrounding-countries-while-we're-in-the-MidEast plan...

More info to come! Posted by Picasa

Goodies!

Hello, everyone, and happy Advent!

Well, much to our delight and surprise, we received two care packages in the mail this week, from The Roth's in Tavi and the Blaine's in Stratford.

Of course, both had been opened by customs, but we still manages to receive a few things. So now we're flush with goodies from home, including Balzac's coffee, Skor bars, Swiss Chalet dipping sauce, BodyGlide, forgotten clothing, Christmas wrapping, and cards and letters. We also received some homemade Christmas stockings which were promptly hung on our "fridge of Family Lovin'" (thanks, girls!).

Cheers everyone, and top o' the Season to you!

Rosalee and her gals, EMAC Dubai, November 2006. Posted by Picasa
It's kind of hard to see, but this is a picture of the indoor ski hill in the Mall of the Emirates, Dubai. Rosalee had the opportunity to eat a nice Chinese meal there while her team shopped. Posted by Picasa
